Aker Kvaerner Australia, a subsidiary of the Norwegian engineering, construction and technology group Aker Kvaerner ASA, has been awarded a contract by energy major BP for the delivery of a new facility to produce clean gasoline at the Bulwer Island Refinery in Queensland, Australia.

Aker Kvaerner said its subsidiary would be responsible for overall project management, detailed engineering, procurement of equipment and bulk materials plus
construction management of the project.

The project was required as a result of impending changes in Australian motor spirit specifications on environmental grounds. Aker Kvaerner said its contract was valued at some AS$3.5 million. (US$1=A$1.45).
