(EnergyAsia, April 18 2011, Monday) — Clough AMEC, an equal joint-venture (JV) engineering firm between Australia’s Clough Ltd and the UK’s AMEC Plc, said it has won a A$25 million cost-reimbursable contract to construct and provide services for rejuvenating Oil Search Ltd’s Kumul marine terminal. (US$1=A$0.97).

Located 40 km off the southern coast of Papua New Guinea (PNG), the terminal exports crude oil through tanker offloading facilities.

Clough AMEC said that extending the facility’s life is an important requirement for the PNG liquefied natural gas (LNG) project (in which Oil Search has a 29% stake) to produce additional associated liquids for export via the terminal.

The scope of work includes construction management, pre-mobilisation preparation and project materials staging before offshore implementation, which will involve supervision and management of trades labour.

The Perth, Western Australia company said that the onshore preparation component has begun and will run until the end of 2011, while the offshore work will last approximately four months with project completion planned for April 2012.

John Smith, Clough’s CEO, said:

“We are delighted to be selected by Oil Search to assist with this important rejuvenation project. The award recognises the investment we have made in strengthening the management team and project delivery systems in the business. We will work diligently with our long term partner AMEC and draw on our 26 years of experience in PNG to deliver safe and successful project outcomes for Oil Search.”

Steve Ciccone, AMEC director for Australia and Southeast Asia, said:

“This award is recognition of the strength of services offered by the high calibre team at Clough AMEC. Together, we look forward to working alongside Oil Search to further develop this important asset.”

Established in 2004, Clough AMEC provides engineering, operations and maintenance services to create a safer, cleaner and more efficient hydrocarbons industry.
