(EnergyAsia, June 30 2011, Thursday) — Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Co has been renamed Orpic.

The company said the new name and a rebranding campaign are aimed at reflecting the sultanate’s increasingly modern and inter-linked oil refining and petrochemicals industry which recently was recently restructured to improve efficiency and competitveness.

Orpic, formed out of the integration of Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals Co, Aromatics Oman and Oman Polypropylene, now owns and operates plants in Muscat and Sohar, and will soon build an integrated Omani refining and petrochemical business.

Employing 1,600 people, it is looking to recruit over 400 local employees in the next five years, many of them to operate and maintain Oman’s refineries and petrochemical plants.
