(EnergyAsia, June 20, Friday) — Global Petroleum Show (GPS) 2008 set a record breaking attendance with nearly 62,000 registered attendees, making it the most attended GPS in the show’s 40-year history. About 100 countries were represented at the Calgary event in Canada’s Alberta province which attracted more than 2,000 exhibiting companies.

The year’s GPS launched The Global Petroleum Conference, which featured important industry speakers including Ed Stelmach, Alberta’s Premier; Gerry Protti, Encana’s President (Offshore & International Division) and executive vice president (PR); Soheil Asgarpour, Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada’s President; Kevin Meyers, ConocoPhillips Canada’s President; Sami Fahed Al-Rushaid, Kuwait Oil Company chairman and managing director; and UAE Energy Minister Mohamed bin Dhaen Al Hamli.

The session was moderated by Peter Mansbridge, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s acclaimed news anchor.

GPS 2008 had 10 new features including but not limited to the Siemens exiderdome – a one-of-a-kind technology exhibit made up of 55 containers, 220 tons of steel and 20 km of power cables, the Global Petroleum Career Exposition, Global Petroleum Show Charity Golf Tournament, in support of the Werklund Foundation and The Global Petroleum Show Professional Bull Riders Invitational.

“Our goal was to bring GPS to the next level and to provide visitors with the latest innovations in technology, products and services for the oil and gas industry,” said Mr Scott.

“This year’s registered attendance numbers are the highest we have ever had and we continue to receive positive feedback on the enhancements made to GPS 2008.  We are thrilled with the success of this year’s event and are looking forward to 2010.”
