(EnergyAsia, June 25, Wednesday) — The ‘National Photovoltaic Conference 2008 (NPVC 2008)’ will be held at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel south of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 14.

The conference, in line with the national objective of promoting the use of solar energy as an alternative to fossil fuels, will provide a platform for policy makers and industry players to exchange ideas and build up networking opportunities.

Speakers at the event include Anuar Abdul Rahman (Pusat Tenaga Malaysia), Benjamin Sovacool (National University Singapore), Gerhard Stryi-Hipp (German Solar Industry Association), Christophe Inglin (Renewable Energy Committee of Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore), Badriyah Hj Abdul Malek ( Malaysian Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications), Uwe Juergen Bauer (Q-CELLS Asia Ltd), Hideyuki Inada (SHARP Electronics Malaysia), Shamsudin Khalid (SHARP-ROXY) and Ahmad Hadri Haris (MBIPV Project).

The conference includes an exhibition on products and services offered by PV companies. The event is fully sponsored by Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications with support from United Nations Development Programme, Global Environment Facility and Malaysian PV Industry Association.

Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic Project (MBIPV) leader Ahmad Hadri Haris said:

“With the rising cost of fossil fuel and the effects of climate change, solar PV is rapidly gaining momentum as an emerging industry.”

“While many European countries have soaring solar PV installed capacity, it is ironic that Malaysia lags behind in miniscule solar PV capacity despite having an abundance of sunlight.”

‘National Photovoltaic Conference 2008 (NPVC 2008)’ is organised by MBIPV Project of the Malaysia Energy Centre (PTM). For more information, please contact Admin@EnergyAsia.com.
