(EnergyAsia, September 17 2010, Friday) — Global climate solutions specialist Trane has opened its first Asia Pacific centre of excellence for energy efficiency as part of its effort to lead in green energy concepts and reducing carbon emissions.

The company said the centre will support the development of energy-smart solutions for urban structures, offer guidelines to design and implement energy efficiency services. It will also be used to train engineers to meet the rising demand for trained professionals to implement and maintain green buildings across the region.

Pay Ngiap Poh, vice president of Trane Asia Pacific Energy Solutions, Ingersoll Rand Climate Solutions Asia Pacific, said:

“The centre is aimed at strengthening our competencies in providing innovation-intensive solutions to meet the increasingly complex needs of energy usage in buildings. We chose to establish the first regional centre in Singapore for two reasons: the government’s pro-active support in energy efficiency, and leveraging on Singapore as a test-bed to develop technological capabilities to drive green energy solutions.

“Through the centre, we aim to provide specialist training for Energy engineers across Asia Pacific. We are in the process of rolling out other centres of excellence for energy efficiency throughout Asia Pacific – where the governments and businesses alike are placing it a top priority to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions to ensure long term urban sustainability via innovative high energy efficiency solutions.”

At its calibration laboratory in Jurong, Singapore, Trane said it conducts a specialised training programme for engineers that includes visits to key sites to learn about high energy efficiency systems.

In Singapore, Trane has played an advisory role for the government’s Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) programme jointly administered by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

Trane has also provided specialised trainers for SCEM course and other government agencies sponsored courses.
