(EnergyAsia, May 31) — Kuwait’s Proclad Group, the world’s largest cladding company and a leading provider of precision engineering and manufacturing services to the oil and gas industry, has opened a US$25 million manufacturing plant in Singapore.

           

Subsidiary FTV Proclad Singapore Pte Ltd will provide customers in Southeast Asia the integration of engineering knowledge and product expertise through its new facility on Benoi Road. It will offer a full range of technologies, products and services including the manufacture of weld clad pipe and pipeline components, induction bending of unclad and clad pipe, forged standard and clad fittings and specialist CNC machining services, engineering design, project management and consultancy.

           

The centre will also conduct research and development on technologies for the oil and gas industry as well as train staff. The R&D unit will be linked with Proclad’s R&D Centers in Scotland and Dubai which were set up in collaboration with leading European and American R&D institutions.

 

Adel Khalid Al Sabeeh, chairman of the Proclad Group, said: “Singapore’s strategic location, excellent logistics infrastructure, high quality workforce and the government’s commitment in establishing the republic as an integrated world-class petroleum and petrochemical hub were key factors that influenced our decision to set up manufacturing operations here.”

Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Lim Hng Kiang, who officiated the opening ceremony on Monday, said: “We welcome more enterprises, like Proclad, from the Gulf region to partner Singapore as they internationalise their businesses. Singapore is a trusted value-adding hub for these companies tapping on Asia’s growth. Proclad’s investment in Singapore further strengthens our status as the largest oil and gas equipment manufacturing base in Asia.”

 

Leveraging on the successes of other well-established Proclad facilities in the UK and the Middle East, FTV Proclad (Singapore) has established links with prominent clients in the region such as ABB, Adnoc Group, BP, Cameron, ConocoPhillips, CUEL, Dril-Quip, Exxon Mobil, FMC, Aker Kvaerner Subsea, McDermott, PetroChina, Petronas, Pertamina, RasGas, Saudi Aramco, Shell, Sime Darby Engineering, Statoil, Technip, Vetco Gray, among others.

 

By the end of 2007, FTV Proclad (Singapore) will have a workforce of about 50 employees who are mostly engineers and technicians. The company also expects to double the production capacity of the manufacturing facility in two years.


The Proclad Group has had a presence in Singapore since 2003 when it opened Proclad International Asia Pacific Pte Ltd which markets and supplies carbon and stainless steel products to customers in the region.
