(EnergyAsia, August 25 2011, Thursday) — Singapore’s Tiong Woon Corporation (TWC) Holding Ltd said its 51%-owned subsidiary, Tiong Woon Oasis Marine & Engineering Pte Ltd (TWOME), has won a contract to help develop the first phase of the super shipyard being built in Singapore’s western Tuas area.
The contract was awarded by Zhen Hua (Singapore) Engineering Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd, the main contractor developing the project for owner Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd.
TWC declined to provide the value of the contract which calls for the removal of existing shore protection, sand dredging and rock protection for the proposed docks, wharves, quays, piers andother ancillary works at the site in Tuas South. Work has started on the development of the 73.3-hectare phase 1 site, and is targeted for completion in March 2013.
The new yard is strategically located along major sea lanes off western Singapore to serve the international market for ship repair and conversion works.
Ang Kah Hong, TWC’s chairman and managing director, said:
“We are pleased to be awarded this project from Zhen Hua. We look forward to offering our expertise and one-stop integrated services in heavy lift, heavy haulage and project engineering.”
TWC provides engineering and contractor services for the oil, gas and petrochemicals industries, specialising in heavy lift and installation of process equipment.
