(EnergyAsia, December 23 2013, Monday) — Foster Wheeler AG said a subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded a contract to design and supply hydrogen reformers for a US$9 billion refinery being built in the Nghi Son economic zone in Vietnam’s Thanh Hoa Province.
The Zug, Switzerland-based engineering giant said the reformers, due for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2015, will produce a combined annual total of 145,000 tonnes of hydrogen. The company was awarded the licence package for the hydrogen production unit by Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical (NSRP) in 2010.
Delivery of the Terrace Wall reformers is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2015.
“This major award by the NSRP EPC consortium demonstrates confidence in Foster Wheeler’s technology in hydrogen reforming and our ability to design to exacting specifications,” said Umberto della Sala, Foster Wheeler’s chief operating officer.
“Our Terrace Wall reformer, as well as being extremely efficient and reliable, is very well suited to the modular execution strategy adopted for this hydrogen unit.
“Large sections of the reformers will be designed to be delivered fully assembled, maximising offsite activity and delivering schedule benefits. Our fired heater groups in Reading, UK and Milan, Italy will combine their expert resources to execute this important project.”
