(EnergyAsia, September 6 2010, Monday) — Coal Trading Asia 2010, organised by the Asia Business Forum, will be held at the Grand Park city Hall hotel in Singapore from October 25 to 26.
The conference aims to provide an update on coal supply and demand trends in and around major Asian markets, and latest developments on coal logistics and infrastructure in the region. It will also examine ways to improve coal contracts by utilising coal derivatives to hedge against pricing risks, opportunities in paper and physical coal trading as well as strategies to secure coal supplies.
Speakers will also address topics including coal trading in China and India, coal production and supply across Asia, competition for thermal coal in coal fired power generation, fuel demand management through strategic investments, the steel industry, and coal financial trading in Asia.

Two post conference workshops will be held at the same venue on October 27.
London Dry Bulk’s Destiny Guo Liangyi will be conducting the first workshop on price risk hedging through derivatives. The workshop aims provide a background on how swaps can be used to hedge against price volatility in the market. As more physical contracts are moving towards an index price basis, buyers and sellers would be exposed to price volatility. The workshop will discuss the use of swaps to hedge against price volatility.
Sreejith Chalakkal from PT. Bayan Resources, TBK will lead the second workshop on coal contract negotiations and strategies. The workshop will discuss practical considerations for buyers and sellers essential when negotiating complex contracts.
