(EnergyAsia, March 1 2012, Thursday) — A consortium comprising Japanese trading house Marubeni and US engineering firm Black & Veatch has completed the fifth phase of a combined-cycle cogeneration plant in southern Thailand for the Glow Energy Public Company, Ltd.

The low-emissions natural gas plant delivers a clean, reliable source of steam and electricity to Thailand’s growing industrial sectors, particularly the petrochemical industry in Rayong.

“The clean energy provided at Glow Phase 5 will support the development of Thailand’s industrial sector. It will fuel the growth of what is the second largest economy in Southeast Asia,” said Hoe Wai Cheong, managing director for Asia and Middle East, India, Europe and Africa in Black & Veatch’s global energy business.

As the project’s technical manager, Black & Veatch was responsible for engineering, balance-of-plant covering equipment except for the steam turbine generator, combustion turbine and condenser, procurement, construction management, start-up and commissioning.

Marubeni was the commercial manager with responsibility for procurement of the power train and the construction subcontract.

“The successful delivery of this complex power solution demonstrates the talent and experience that we have nurtured locally in Thailand,” said Dean Oskvig, president and CEO of Black & Veatch’s global energy business. “The project team within our Bangkok office led this assignment with support from our integrated global workforce.”
