(EnergyAsia, May 7 2012, Monday) — Australia’s Gloucester Coal Ltd said it more than tripled third quarter production to 1.276 million tonnes from 342,000 tonnes in the same January-March period last year.

The bulk of the increase came from the relatively new Donaldson (497,000 tonnes) and Middlemount (173,000 tonnes) mines while the main Gloucester Basin mine boosted its quarterly output by more than 77% to 606,000 tonnes compared with year-ago level.

For the nine months to date, the Australia-listed company raised production by 2.7 times to 3.334 million tonnes from 1.231 million tonnes.

Gloucester Coal, which is being acquired by Yanzhou Coal Mining Co, said sales for the quarter more than doubled to 3.084 million tonnes. Its thermal coal sales rose from 300,000 tonnes to 763,000 tonnes while metallurgical coal sales nearly tripled from 196,000 tonnes to 570,000 tonnes.

Sales for the nine months to date more than doubled to 3.084 million tonnes, with thermal coal sales rising from 977,000 tonnes to just over two million tonnes, and metallurgical coal sales up from 548,000 tonnes to 977,000 tonnes.

In March, the Australian government approved the takeover of Gloucester by China-owned Yanzhou Coal’s Australian subsidiary.
