(EnergyAsia, July 10 2012, Tuesday) — Australian rail freight operator QR National Ltd said it has signed a new long-term contract with Jellinbah Group Pty Ltd to transport coal from its Lake Vermont mine in Queensland state.
Under the new contract from July 2012 to 2022, QR will deliver four million tons of coal a year.
According to two existing contracts, QR will deliver two million tons of coal a year from the mine to Gladstone port until 2014, and six million tons a year from the same mine to Abbot Point port until 2022
QR’s Executive Vice President (Commercial and Marketing) Paul Scurrah said the company is focused on performance-based contracts that are underpinned by reliability and safety.
“We are pleased to continue our long-term relationship with Jellinbah, and look forward to assisting their continued growth in Queensland,” he said.
The contract signing follows the announcement that QR National plans to expand existing rail systems in Queensland to facilitate staged development of the Galilee and Bowen Basins, to support ongoing growth in the resources sector.
