(EnergyAsia, April 5 2012, Thursday) — Honeywell said it has been selected for a US$5 million project to provide technology and expertise to ensure the timely, safe and efficient start-up of one of China’s largest methanol-to-olefins (MTO) and methanol-to-propylene (MTP) projects.

Phase one of Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical Company Ltd (PCEC)’s coal-to-chemical project has an annual production capacity of 700,000 tons of olefins and 1.8 million tons of methanol.

Honeywell said its MTO technology facilitates the production of high-value petrochemicals from coal instead of petroleum or natural gas.

Honeywell said PCEC will deploy its Experion® PKS, Safety Manager, Unisim Operator

Training System and Field Device Manager system for five coal chemical sites in China.

As the main automation vendor, Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) will provide system configuration and site services for plant start-up and commissioning. It will also oversee the implementation of third-party systems integration and engineering.

Fan Liming, PCEC’s general manager, said:

“In the coal chemical industry, it is important to maximise resources to ensure long-term sustainability and greater economic contributions.

“We will leverage Honeywell’s award-winning solutions and global expertise to help us drive greater efficiencies and to ensure safety and reliability. I am confident that Honeywell will help us ensure the success of the Pucheng Coal Chemical Project.”

Samuel Wu, vice president and general manager, Greater China, Honeywell Process Solutions, said:

“As one of the world’s leading automation suppliers, Honeywell is committed to helping our customers attain their business goals.

“Through strategic use of technologies like ours, PCEC can more effectively use China’s rich coal reserves to support the country’s growth and development cleanly and safely.”

Honeywell said it has already successfully won a number of other MTO/MTP projects in China.
