(EnergyAsia, July 6 2012, Friday) — Praxair China said it has started up a large air separation plant in Wuwei in Anhui province to supply oxygen, nitrogen and clean air to a coal-based chemicals plant in nearby Jiangsu province.
Located 100 km from Nanjing city in eastern China, Anhui HuaYi Chemical Co Ltd’s plant converts coal to chemical gases.
Praxair China said its 3,000-ton/day single-train air separation unit will also generate liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon that will be integrated with the company’s liquid production and distribution network in the region.
The integrated system improves distribution efficiency and reliability to customers in the region’s merchant market, strengthening Praxair China’s capability to supply oxygen to coal gasification units which provide feedstock to the chemical industry.
Minda Ho, president of Praxair China, said: “We’re very proud to have the opportunity to further demonstrate our strengths in supporting major projects in the chemical industry and we look forward to a long and successful commercial relationship with Shanghai HuaYi (Group) Company.”
Anhui HuaYi Chemical Co Ltd is an affiliate of Shanghai HuaYi (Group) Company, one of China’s largest chemical groups supplying fine and specialty chemicals.
Praxair (China) Investment Co Ltd, a leading industrial gas provider in China headquartered in Shanghai, is a subsidiary of Praxair, a world leader in providing industrial gases.
