(EnergyAsia, July 21 2011, Thursday) —- German’s Tognum engineering and energy services group said it plans to increase its offering of MTU power solutions to the fast-growing oil and gas industry in Asia.

Asian companies are becoming more active in oil and gas exploration and production activities, with shipyards a central piece in producing offshore vessels, equipment and services.

Given its long history in the oil and gas industry, serving a broad base of engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and manufacturing firms, MTU will be expanding “its engine offerings for local customers, expanding their service and support network, and decentralising packaging and assembly for closer proximity to customers.”

Tognum said MTU will introduce its newly released S4000T94 and updated S1600 engines and increase its service and support network for closer proximity to customers. It will also venture into the electrical drilling package (EDP) market by offering a 50Hz drill rig power package.

Its recently released Series 4000T94 and upcoming updated Series 1600 engines will be introduced into Asia to help companies maximise their operations and fulfil stringent greenhouse gas emission standards.

In China, Tognum said MTU will focus on enhancing its support infrastructure through its expanding network of dealers.

China is also becoming a major supplier and manufacturer of drilling and servicing equipment that is gaining acceptance among customers around the world.

Tognum said MTU has been supplying Asian with the P-series engines that are extensively applied in offshore gensets and fire pump operations and can be delivered with the stringent ATEX certified for use in hazardous areas.

MTU has also been developing and offering global customers customised solutions for emergency power and fire pump systems for offshore rigs and vessels. Since entering China in 2004, the company has become a leading equipment supplier for onshore well servicing and drilling for the oil and gas industry in Asia and around the world.

Operating through two business units, Engines and Onsite Energy & Components, the Tognum Group is one of the world’s leading suppliers of engines and propulsion systems for off-highway applications and of distributed energy systems.

The product portfolio of the Engines business unit comprises MTU engines and propulsion systems for ships, for heavy land, rail and defense vehicles and for the oil and gas industry.

The Onsite Energy & Components business unit supplies distributed energy systems of the MTU Onsite Energy brand and fuel-injection systems from L’Orange. The energy systems comprise diesel engines for emergency standby 6/6 power, prime power and continuous power, as well as cogeneration power plants based on gas engines and gas turbines that generate both power and heat.

Last year, Tognum generated revenue of around 2.56 billion euro and employed more than 9,000 people. The company has a global manufacturing, distribution and service structure with 25 fully consolidated companies, more than 140 sales partners and over 500 authorised dealerships at approximately 1,200 locations.
