(EnergyAsia, March 6 2012, Tuesday) — Adani Enterprises, a member of India’s privately owned Adani Group, said it has signed five agreements to supply a total of four million tonnes of imported coal to NTPC, the country’s largest power generation company.
Adani Enterprises will supply the coal to NTPC’s 14 power stations across India between March and June 2012.
It will supply one million tonnes of coal each to the power stations in Talcher, Farakka and Kahalgaon, 800,000 tonnes each to Dadri, Rihand, Singrauli, Tanda, Unchchar and Vindhyachal, 700,000 tonnes each to Korba and Sipat, and 500,000 tonnes each to Simhadri and Ramagundam.
Adani Enterprises, India’s largest coal importer of coal with a market share of over 50%, counts almost all the country’s state-owned power utilities as its customers. To ensure supply security, the company is developing and operating mines in India, Indonesia and Australia, and importing and trading coal from other parts of the world.
The company expects to produce 200 million tonnes of coal per year in 2020, making it one of the largest mining groups in the world.
