(EnergyAsia, April 15 2011, Friday) — Mongolian Mining Corp is expected to commission the first module of its new five-million-tonne-a-year plant to handle and process coal this quarter.

The second phase of the plant will be operational later in the year while the third phase will likely start up at the end of 2012, lifting the plant’s total capacity to 15 million tonnes per year.

Mongolian Mining, the country’s largest producer and exporter of high-quality coking coal, is investing in the plants to ensure a stable supply of washed coking coal as well as improve its profitability.

The company operates coking coal open-pit mining at the Ukhaa Khudag coking coal deposit, which is located inside the giant Tavan Tolgoi coal basin.
