(EnergyAsia, September 10 2012, Monday) — South Korean engineering firm Daelim said it has secured a US$345 million contract to build a coal-fired power plant in the Mekong River Delta for a subsidiary of state-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).

Daelim plans to deliver the 330MW unit of the O-Mon Thermal Power Plant to Can Tho Thermal Power Co Ltd by October 2015. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing a US$200 million loan for the project which is located in the O Mon region in Can Tho province.

The company said it will oversee the equipment supply, construction and test operations as well as detailed engineering work.

This is Daelim’s second major contract award in Vietnam this year. In May, the South Korean firm was awarded a US$1.2 billion contract to build the Thai Binh coal-fired thermal power plant, the largest in Vietnam.
