(EnergyAsia, November 6 2012, Tuesday) — Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) said it has received an order to supply equipment including a steam turbine and boiler to be installed in the 330MW Unit 2 of the O Mon 1 coal-fired thermal power plant now under construction in Vietnam.
The equipment is being purchased by Can Tho Thermal Power Co Ltd, a subsidiary of state-owned Vietnam Electricity (EVN). MHI said it received the order from a consortium comprising Japan’s Sojitz Corp and South Korea’s Daelim Industrial Co Ltd, which is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project due to start up in 2015.
MHI will deliver the steam turbine to Sojitz and the boiler to Daelim.
The O Mon plant’s Unit 2 is being built near Unit 1 which is located along the Mekong River in southern Vietnam.
As with Unit 1, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide yen credit to fund the construction of Unit 2.
